Waterloo region’s shared electric bike and electric scooter program has returned to the streets with a fresh name and color scheme. Lime Micromobility has commenced the rollout of its e-bikes and e-scooters across the region following the acquisition of Neuron Mobility Canada in July.
Rachel Rappaport, Lime Canada’s senior regional lead of government relations, stated that the company is dedicated to ensuring a seamless transition and providing riders with an exceptional experience. Neuron vehicles were phased out from the region after Lime’s takeover in preparation for the launch of Lime’s own fleet.
The latest Lime fleet will feature the Gen 4.1 e-scooters and Gen 4 e-bikes, with deployment locations mirroring those of Neuron’s previous vehicles. Riders can conveniently locate nearby vehicles, reserve them, and begin their ride using the Lime app. In the absence of app-unlockable vehicles, riders can scan the QR code on the vehicle for access.
The Region of Waterloo has announced that up to 500 e-bikes and e-scooters will be accessible across Cambridge, Kitchener, and Waterloo as part of the program. Riders are reminded to park the vehicles responsibly to avoid obstructing pedestrians or other road users. However, the service will only be available until October 31 this year, marking the end of the regular season.
Rappaport mentioned, “We are collaborating closely with the cities in the Waterloo region to establish a lasting partnership that caters to mobility requirements across the three cities.”
