Lightspeed Commerce Inc. has announced that 250 positions will be affected by layoffs and the decision not to fill certain job openings. The Montreal-headquartered software company stated that these measures are aimed at streamlining operations to enable reinvestment in customer growth and product advancements.
Regarding the specific departments impacted by the layoffs and vacancies, Stephanie Princivil, a spokesperson for Lightspeed, declined to provide details but mentioned that further information will be disclosed during the upcoming quarterly earnings report.
In recent years, Lightspeed has implemented various staff reductions as Dax Dasilva, the company’s founder and CEO, resumed his role at the helm. Additionally, in a bid to enhance shareholder value, Lightspeed underwent a strategic review, which concluded without a privatization deal. Instead, the company decided to focus on strengthening its North American retail and European hospitality segments while divesting Upserve, its restaurant management tools business.
