The Vancouver Canucks have inked a new eight-year contract extension with defenseman Zeev Buium, worth $9.38 million US annually, as revealed by the team on Friday. Last season, the 20-year-old player tallied three goals and nine assists over 45 games for Vancouver.
Buium was traded from the Minnesota Wild to the Canucks in a significant deal that involved the former Vancouver captain Quinn Hughes heading to Minnesota. The San Diego native has accumulated a total of six goals and 20 assists in his 76 NHL appearances split between the Wild and Canucks.
Initially picked 12th overall by Minnesota during the 2024 NHL draft, Buium clinched an NCAA championship with the University of Denver in the same year. Additionally, he has secured gold medals with the United States in various international tournaments, including the 2023 world under-18 championship, the 2024 and 2025 world junior championships, and the 2025 world championship.
