A part of Highway 6 within Hamilton’s Flamborough area has been shut down after a collision involving a commercial vehicle, as confirmed by the police. The closure spans from Freelton Road to Concession 11 E. in the Freelton community, as stated in a social media update by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The incident occurred just before 3:30 a.m. when a tractor trailer transporting steel collided with a construction barrier, veered across all lanes, and impacted the opposite barrier, leading to a diesel spill into the nearby ditch and necessitating a complete road closure.
The crash happened within a construction zone where certain lanes were already blocked off for maintenance purposes, according to law enforcement. OPP announced at 4:44 a.m. on Monday that there would be an extended closure to facilitate investigations and clean-up efforts, urging motorists to seek alternative routes. The closure is anticipated to last until 7 p.m., with police mentioning the need for repairing and replacing concrete barriers as the reason for the prolonged shutdown.
Authorities have confirmed that no injuries occurred in the collision and have indicated that charges are likely to be filed. In a cautionary statement, OPP emphasized the importance of reducing speed and staying vigilant when driving through construction zones.
