In the midst of an intense trade dispute, strong ties have developed between Ontario’s Niagara region and Buffalo, N.Y. Demonstrating this bond, Niagara Falls Tourism published a full-page open letter in the Buffalo News, inviting Americans to join their Canadian neighbors in celebrating on Saturday night. The iconic Niagara Falls will be illuminated in the red, white, and blue hues associated with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills, accompanied by fireworks in matching colors.
The open letter highlighted the recent event at the Buffalo Bills’ home opener where Canadians enthusiastically sang along to “O Canada” as the Barenaked Ladies performed, and actress AuliÊ»i Cravalho sang “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Buffalo’s Visit Buffalo also displayed billboards in southern Ontario with the message, “O Canada, We’re Still Singing it, Love Buffalo.”
A video posted on social media by the team showed retired Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and former wide receiver Stevie Johnson engaging in cross-border football catches along the Niagara River, symbolizing the strong connection between the two regions.
Adam Stiles, acting president and CEO of Niagara Falls Tourism, expressed appreciation for the gestures of goodwill from Buffalo. He emphasized the importance of unity and spreading positivity amidst the prevailing news dominated by tariffs and political issues. Stiles conveyed gratitude on behalf of Canadians and stressed the significance of reciprocating gestures of kindness.
The special illumination of Niagara Falls is scheduled from 10 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. ET, with fireworks following from 10 p.m. to 10:05 p.m. This event serves as a token of gratitude to the American neighbors, reaffirming that they are always welcome in Niagara Falls, Canada.
