In a recent video from the CBC Creator Network, the focus was on exploring the factors that contribute to people’s happiness. Contrary to common beliefs, the World Happiness Report indicates that the highest levels of life satisfaction are not necessarily linked to leisurely beach vacations with cocktails. Surprisingly, the top-ranking nations in terms of happiness are those with high taxation rates and cold climates, with Nordic countries consistently leading the way. Currently, Finland holds the top position in the rankings.
Canada, on the other hand, was placed 25th in the latest World Happiness Report. However, an intriguing analysis suggests that if Quebec were considered as a separate entity, it would secure the fifth spot globally in terms of happiness. This analysis, conducted by one of the report’s authors, surpasses not only the rest of Canada but also several other advanced economies.
Supporting this claim, Stats Canada data reveals that Quebec boasts the highest life satisfaction levels in the country. To delve deeper into this phenomenon, the Creator Network video features discussions with happiness experts and Quebec residents, shedding light on the unique factors contributing to Quebecers’ happiness.
The World Happiness Report rankings, based on surveys conducted between 2023 and 2025 across 147 countries with approximately 1,000 respondents per country, are published by the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford.
