The deadline for Miller to withdraw from the ballot officially lapsed on Monday, with the Ohio Secretary of State’s office confirming his continued candidacy. Miller’s spokesperson, Abigail Angelos, stated that the congressman, who has served two terms representing Ohio’s 7th District, is determined to pursue reelection and build on his previous work.
Former President Donald Trump recently expressed concerns about Miller’s reelection bid during a phone call, with sources revealing that Trump warned Miller of a challenging race. Despite this, Miller remains resolute, vowing to persevere. Republican National Committee Chair Joe Gruters has indicated that the national party will support Miller’s campaign.
In response to Miller’s decision, his Democratic opponent, Brian Poindexter, reiterated his stance that if the abuse allegations are substantiated, Miller should face legal consequences. Poindexter emphasized his commitment to representing the district’s residents and working for their interests, pledging to run a campaign focused on serving the community.
Police reports obtained by ABC News detail allegations of domestic violence made by Emily Moreno against Miller, including incidents during their marriage and divorce proceedings. The reports also mention claims of physical harm to her daughter while under Miller’s care. Despite these allegations, Miller has denied any wrongdoing, was not charged with a crime, and no evidence of child abuse was found by the Department of Children and Family Services.
The upcoming election in November is poised to be a contentious battle between Miller and Poindexter, with both candidates vying to represent Ohio’s 7th District and champion the interests of its constituents.
