The Canadian senior women’s basketball team dominated the Philippines with a commanding 85-38 victory at the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico on Wednesday. Yvonne Ejim led the scoring for Canada with 19 points, while Syla Swords contributed 15 points to the team’s success.
Canada took an early lead of 23-4 at Arena Astros and extended it to 46-11 by halftime. The ongoing eight-team qualifier event will run until Sunday.
Previously defeating Senegal 72-57 in the tournament opener on Monday, Canada is set to face host Mexico on Thursday. The ultimate winner of the tournament will secure a spot in one of the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments scheduled for February 2028.
