The United States, the NORCECA champion and the fourth-ranked team globally, is not part of the Olympic qualifier due to their automatic qualification as the host country for the L.A. Games. Canada, currently ranked 13th in the world, appears to be the frontrunner for victory in the qualifier tournament.
