Five individuals lost their lives, and 40 others sustained injuries when a Dutch tour bus crashed into a roadside barrier and flipped over in eastern Switzerland, as per police reports. The incident occurred between the towns of Susch and Zernez in the mountainous canton of Graubuenden, with a total of 45 passengers onboard the bus. Authorities stated that three individuals were in critical condition at the hospital following the crash.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by prosecutors and law enforcement, with no indication of involvement of other vehicles. The travel agency Oad, responsible for the trip, expressed profound shock and sorrow over the tragic incident, extending condolences to those affected and their families.
Swiss President Guy Parmelin, in a statement on the matter, assured that Swiss authorities would conduct a thorough and comprehensive inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Images from the scene depicted rescue teams in high-visibility gear using power tools to access the overturned bus, while police oversaw the operation.
