However, despite his standout portrayal, the Canadian actor revealed that he has not received any offers for new roles since the film’s success.
During an interview on the podcast On Film… With Kevin McCarthy, Page disclosed that he has not been inundated with casting calls following the movie’s release. Despite garnering acclaim for his depiction of the Greek soldier Sinon in The Odyssey, Page expressed surprise at the lack of new opportunities.
Page humorously addressed the backlash he faced for his Canadian identity, subtly referencing the transphobic reactions from far-right commentators when rumors circulated about his casting as Achilles. Notable figures like Ben Shapiro, Megyn Kelly, and Elon Musk fueled controversy on social media, which was later debunked when Page’s actual role was revealed.
With a career spanning from a young age, including his acclaimed performance in Juno and appearances in Inception and Hard Candy, Page publicly came out as transgender in 2020. He has been an outspoken advocate against anti-2SLGBTQ+ rhetoric and legislation in both the U.S. and Canada, signing an open letter denouncing discriminatory policies alongside other Canadian artists.
In a recent podcast episode, Page expressed his eagerness to continue acting, emphasizing how his transition has boosted his confidence and enhanced his performance abilities. Reflecting on his past discomfort, he believes that he is now capable of delivering some of his best work.
Notably, Page’s co-star Samantha Morton, who portrayed Circe in The Odyssey, also shared her post-film experience, revealing a lack of work opportunities since the movie’s release. Morton acknowledged the changing dynamics of the industry and the challenges faced by actors, recognizing the competitive nature of the field.
Both Page and Morton, despite their exceptional performances in Nolan’s epic, have encountered difficulties in securing new roles post-release, shedding light on the intricacies and challenges within the entertainment industry.
