Manitoba RCMP have confirmed that the human remains discovered in Umpherville this week belong to a “newly born infant or fetus.” The authorities were alerted to the possible presence of human remains in the northern community near The Pas on Monday morning. The remains were located between two residences, as stated in a news release by the RCMP on Wednesday.
Following an autopsy conducted on Wednesday, the investigation by the RCMP is ongoing. A memorial has been established at the site where the human remains were found, consisting of stuffed animals and a baby-sized jacket. Elder Edwin Jebb of Opaskwayak Cree Nation mentioned that a sacred fire has been ignited at the location. He also noted that a vigil was held with 80 attendees, surpassing the expected 60, causing distress among the community members.
