A fatal collision in Brampton claimed the life of a 50-year-old motorcyclist on Wednesday morning, according to authorities. Peel police reported that the incident, involving a motorcycle and a transit bus, occurred around 9:26 a.m. in the vicinity of Bovaird Drive E. and Great Lakes Drive.
Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement discovered a male individual with severe injuries deemed life-threatening by Const. Amanda Steenson during a press briefing. Tragically, the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the location. Fortunately, the bus driver emerged unharmed from the crash, as confirmed by Steenson.
Initial indications suggest that the bus was heading northbound and executing a turn, while the motorcycle was traveling westbound prior to the collision, Steenson stated. Although it remains uncertain whether the bus had passengers onboard at the time, she noted that speed might have played a role in the accident. However, a conclusive determination awaits the examination of witness testimonies, video footage, and scene reconstruction by investigators.
Authorities are appealing for individuals possessing information or dashcam recordings to come forward and assist with the investigation. Additionally, residents in the vicinity are advised to steer clear of road closures affecting westbound and eastbound traffic between Great Lakes Drive and Highway 410, as per police instructions.
