The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired catcher Shawn Ross through waivers from the New York Mets. Following the transaction, Ross has been sent down to the triple-A Buffalo team. Ross, aged 26, entered Major League Baseball earlier this season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, playing in two games before being picked up by the Mets.
In his performance across 70 games this season at both the triple-A and double-A levels, Ross has maintained a .184 batting average, recording 13 doubles, 11 home runs, and 29 RBIs, along with successfully throwing out 14 baserunners from behind the plate. Originally brought on board by the Pirates as an undrafted free agent in 2022 from Clarendon Junior College, Ross has accumulated a .189 batting average, 39 doubles, 53 home runs, and 148 RBIs over four seasons and 285 minor-league games in the Pirates and Mets organizations.
