Amid increasing criticism from the Opposition Conservatives, particularly from Leader Pierre Poilievre, who questioned the improvement in Canadians’ lives since Carney assumed office, the government is gearing up for a significant legislative session. Carney, fresh from a packed week that included participating in an investment summit in Toronto and delivering a speech at the European Parliament in France, indicated that these events were just the beginning.
Highlighting the upcoming parliamentary session’s importance, Carney announced plans to introduce a crucial bill called the Building Canada Strong Act this fall. The proposed legislation aims to streamline project reviews by adopting a one-project, one-review, one-year approach. Carney emphasized the need for swift decisions, stating that projects approved by Canada will proceed promptly.
Looking ahead, Carney mentioned plans to introduce a new bill addressing social media and AI regulation, responding to concerns about online safety and the well-being of children. Additionally, the government is preparing to unveil a new budget during the fall session, running until December, with a focus on managing spending effectively and enhancing social programs without divulging specific details.
