The recent temporary halt to Meals on Wheels service in Whitehorse was not due to a funding cut or deliberate program reduction, according to the Yukon government. An unexpected staffing shortage in early September caused the interruption in service delivery plans. Despite efforts to distribute meals to clients on Sept. 9 who couldn’t collect them, full service did not resume until Sept. 16. The Official Opposition raised concerns about the program’s pause amid what they describe as an “affordability crisis.” Yukon NDP Leader Kate White emphasized the need for better funding to ensure continuous access to services for eligible clients, particularly impacting individuals and seniors facing financial challenges.
