The Mira Boat Club in Cape Breton has decided to close for the rest of the season due to a fire that occurred early on a Friday morning. The structure suffered significant damage on the exterior and widespread smoke damage. The Albert Bridge Volunteer Fire Department enlisted the Nova Scotia fire marshal’s office to conduct an investigation.
Gary O’Brien, representing the fire marshal’s office, mentioned an increase in similar cases in the region recently. He expressed concerns about suspicious activities in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) over the past few months. O’Brien highlighted collaborative efforts with the Cape Breton Regional Police to determine the cause of these fires, stating that connecting recent incidents in the area shows no clear pattern.
He emphasized that the fires appear to be random acts, and the investigation aims to pinpoint specific details with the assistance of law enforcement. The Mira Boat Club, known for promoting water sports and serving as a community hub, is deeply affected by this incident, according to O’Brien.
It is a regrettable event for both the community and the club.
