Real estate developer Sacha Singh, a prominent investor of the self-proclaimed “Crypto King,” testified on Wednesday about his initial interactions with Aiden Pleterski, whom he believed could be a rising star in the crypto world. Singh, who participated in Pleterski’s investment schemes, shared details during Pleterski’s trial for fraud in Toronto.
Singh first encountered Pleterski in the spring of 2021 and was impressed by his potential. He signed his first investment contract with Pleterski for $10,000 and subsequently engaged in additional investments totaling over $4.5 million over the following months. The transactions were documented through wire transfers and cash payments.
Among the investors testifying against Pleterski, Singh contributed the most substantial amount, surpassing $4.5 million. Allegations suggest that Pleterski failed to invest the funds as promised, using the money for personal luxuries like high-end cars, private jet trips, extravagant shopping sprees, and substantial credit card expenses.
Singh, introduced to Pleterski by another investor named Akil Heywood, monitored Pleterski’s trading progress through weekly updates on returns from foreign exchange and cryptocurrency investments. Singh meticulously recorded these gains, which purportedly grew his investment to over $26 million by March 2022, despite not receiving most of the returns or his initial investments back.
During court proceedings, Singh revealed conversations with Pleterski where doubts arose regarding the legitimacy of the returns and investments. Pleterski claimed to be using personal funds to pay returns due to issues with the trading platform, FXChoice, and financial constraints. Singh’s suspicions heightened when shown a video of a purported $311 million balance in Pleterski’s FXChoice account.
The trial further unraveled details of Pleterski’s alleged Ponzi scheme, where he admitted to losing significant funds through risky trades and resorting to deceptive practices to sustain the investment facade. Pleterski, representing himself in court, has faced testimonies from multiple investors, including Singh, painting a grim picture of financial deceit and misconduct.
Pleterski’s arrest in May 2024 by Durham Regional Police and the Ontario Securities Commission marked the culmination of a thorough investigation into his purported multimillion-dollar Ponzi scheme. The trial is ongoing, with further proceedings expected to take place.
