“Virgin Media Slashes Price for 1,130Mbps Gig1 Broadband”

Published:

Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband offering to an all-time low. The company has introduced an unexpected sale, reducing the cost of its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.

The Gig1 plan boasts speeds of up to 1,130Mbps and typically retails at £29.99 per month. However, it is currently available at a discounted rate of £26.99, resulting in savings of £72 over the 24-month contract period, which averages out to around 87p per day.

According to Virgin, this promotion marks the “lowest ever price” for the Gig1 package. With these exceptional speeds, users can download a feature-length HD movie in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.

While Virgin’s offering provides lightning-fast connectivity, households with 70Mbps speeds could take over 90 minutes to download the same game. This discounted rate of £26.99 will, however, increase twice during the minimum term, rising to £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028. Additionally, the 1,130Mbps speed may not be available to all UK households, so it is advisable to check availability using Virgin’s postcode checker.

When compared to competitors such as Sky, Virgin’s Gig1 deal at £26.99 stands out as a compelling option. Despite Sky reducing its comparable 900Mbps plan to £28, it remains pricier than Virgin and offers slower speeds. BT, on the other hand, charges £37.99 for access to its 900Mbps connection.

For those seeking even lower prices, alternative network providers like Community Fibre are emerging, offering 1Gbps speeds in select locations for just £25 per month. However, availability is limited, with Community Fibre primarily serving London and certain south-east areas.

It’s essential for consumers to assess their specific needs before committing to a broadband plan. While a couple streaming Netflix nightly may suffice with speeds around 100Mbps, larger households engaging in remote work, downloading content, and online gaming may benefit from speeds of at least 300Mbps. Opting for Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre is akin to having a high-speed motorway directly into your home, ensuring smooth and fast connectivity for various activities.
