“Google Unveils New AI-Powered Pixel Phones”

Published:

Google has revealed its latest range of Pixel phones on Wednesday, showcasing slimmer cameras with enhanced zoom capabilities and artificial intelligence features aimed at simplifying user tasks with minimal interaction. The tech giant aims to entice users to upgrade to the new models and increase the adoption of its AI tools.

Andrew Cornwall, a senior analyst at Forrester, highlighted Google’s emphasis on new AI-driven software features as the main incentive for users to upgrade. Some of the notable additions include the ability to extract photos from videos, a teleprompter feature, video stabilization, and an improved speech-to-text function.

Although Google’s Pixel phones trail behind Apple’s iPhones in popularity, Google has been steadily integrating more AI functionalities into its Pixel phones since 2023. In contrast, Apple has been slower in AI advancements, recently introducing new AI features in June that focus on enhancing daily tasks while prioritizing privacy and security using Google’s Gemini AI model.

Google’s latest presentation outlined key upgrades in the new phones, such as doubling the storage capacity to 256 gigabytes, extending battery life to 30 hours, and improving wireless charging speeds. The company has phased out the 128 gigabyte Pixel 11, previously priced at $800, in favor of higher storage options.

Starting from Wednesday, U.S. customers can purchase the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, and Pixel 11 Pro XL models, priced at $900, $1,100, and $1,300, respectively. Additionally, the Pixel Pro Fold model is available at $1,900, representing a $100 price increase compared to last year’s models.

New features on the Pixel phones include live translation for videos, podcasts, and voice messages, and a unique HiLight tool in the Pro models that assigns colors to favorite contacts, illuminating the phone in the designated color when they call while the phone is placed face down. Google is enticing buyers of the pricier Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL models with a complimentary six-month subscription to its AI Pro plan, aiming to introduce more users to the AI Gemini tool kit.

Camera enhancements encompass a new feature named Magic Capture, which automatically captures a series of photos and videos with a single tap. The cameras boast improved light sensitivity, and the Pro models introduce Instant Night Sight for faster capturing in low-light settings without the need to keep the phone steady during exposure.

For the first time, Google has introduced a tracking device called Pixel Tag, available at $30 for a single unit or $100 for a four-pack, compatible with Android 9 or newer devices.
