In his inaugural press briefing post-confirmation as attorney general, Todd Blanche reaffirmed that the Justice Department’s “Anti-Weaponization Fund” will not be reinstated, despite President Donald Trump indicating earlier that the decision rested with Blanche. “I have repeatedly stated, both under oath and in various forums, that the fund is defunct,” Blanche emphasized in response to inquiries from ABC News. He clarified that he had revoked the fund-establishing order, unequivocally confirming its non-existence.
Furthermore, Blanche expressed openness to exploring alternative avenues to compensate individuals termed as “victims” of “weaponization” under the Biden Administration. While emphasizing the fund’s termination, he acknowledged the President’s and his shared commitment to addressing past injustices but ruled out the Anti-Weaponization Fund as the vehicle for such reparations.
Blanche’s stance aligns with President Trump’s objectives of rectifying past grievances under a reformed approach, signifying potential avenues for redress apart from the now-defunct fund.
