A 15-year-old boy was rescued by a fishing vessel in the Bering Sea after spending days clinging to a capsized skiff. Tragically, his brother and cousin did not survive the ordeal. The boy was found near St. Lawrence Island, a remote Alaskan island closer to Russia than the U.S. mainland.
The captain of The Northwest Explorer, the fishing boat that rescued the boy, commended his resilience, mentioning that the teen had held on to the skiff for nearly three days. The Coast Guard initiated a search after the family reported the trio missing, with the boy being located by an air crew on Monday morning.
Upon rescue, the boy displayed signs of hypothermia and was provided with warmth and care by the fishing boat crew. The rescue operation was captured on video, showing the boy in a bright yellow jacket perched on the overturned skiff as he was pulled to safety. The boy informed the crew that his brother was trapped under the skiff, while his cousin had succumbed before the rescue.
