Jockey Jody Jamieson and his horse Fifth and Five emerged victorious at the 67th edition of the Gold Cup and Saucer race held in Charlottetown on Saturday night. The Gold Cup and Saucer race, boasting a prize purse of $100,000, attracts participants from various regions in North America to the Red Shores Racetrack and Casino annually. Jamieson, who has been following the race since childhood, mentioned his father’s win in 2006 with Banner Yankee as a personal favorite until now.
Reflecting on his winning strategy, Jamieson shared that he maintained a close watch on the horse in the first post position and executed his plan effectively, ultimately achieving victory with Fifth and Five in a time of 1:49.4. He praised the horse for its suitability to the track and impeccable performance, describing it as a “sweetheart” with all the necessary attributes for success.
