Montreal police reported a serious injury resulting from a police shooting during a welfare check that escalated into a violent incident on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred at an apartment on 14th Avenue near Émile-Journault Street in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension area. The police officers were conducting a wellness check to ensure the safety of the occupants when the situation escalated, leading to the use of firearms and the serious injury of an individual. Additionally, one officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries, potentially caused by a sharp object during the incident. The area has been cordoned off, and the investigation has been handed over to Quebec’s independent police oversight agency, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI).
