Former NHL player André Pronovost, known for winning four consecutive Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens, has passed away at the age of 90. The Canadiens confirmed his death on Tuesday, without disclosing the cause. Pronovost, a Quebec native from Shawinigan Falls, had a decade-long career in the NHL, playing for Montreal, Boston, Detroit, and Minnesota.
During his time with the Canadiens from 1957 to 1960, Pronovost was part of the four Cup-winning teams, contributing 109 points in 290 regular-season games and 22 points in 70 playoff matches. He concluded his NHL journey with the Minnesota North Stars in the 1967-68 season after being drafted in the 1967 expansion draft. With a total of 198 points in 557 games, Pronovost left a lasting legacy in the league.
Notably, André Pronovost is the grandfather of Anthony Mantha, a forward for the New Jersey Devils.
