Following the discovery of structural issues at an elementary school in Quebec City, more than 300 students and teachers have been moved to a different school just before the new academic year begins. Inspections at Saint-Fidèle elementary school revealed cracks in the beams and pillars, prompting the Quebec City school service centre to take action. Although safety assessments indicate no immediate danger to occupants, the necessary repairs are significant, requiring a major construction project.
A total of 345 students and staff members will be relocated due to the situation. Concerned parent Catherine Lefrançois expressed unease over the lack of information provided, emphasizing the need for clarity on the situation. An online meeting for parents is scheduled for August 20 to address any concerns.
The school service centre announced that the students and staff will be temporarily transferred to another building owned by the service, situated 250 meters away. Originally designated for students from Jean-de-Brébeuf secondary school, the new facility at the Centre de formation professionnelle de Limoilou will now accommodate the affected groups.
