“Fire Threatens Nunavut Housing Project Supplies”

Published:

A blaze in Naujaat, Nunavut, has caused harm to building supplies designated for a public housing project in the area, although the housing corporation of the territory has stated it is premature to determine if this will impact the project’s schedule.

The fire erupted near the hamlet’s waterfront on Wednesday night. Naujaat’s senior administrative officer, Chantal Pelletier, mentioned in an email that the community’s fire department promptly responded to the incident.

The Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) disclosed that the construction materials were meant for an eight-unit public housing endeavor.

A representative stated via email that they are awaiting the fire chief’s assessment and collaborating with the project contractor and local authorities to evaluate the extent of the destruction.

The completion date for the eight-unit complex is set for June 2027. The representative emphasized that it is premature to ascertain the impact of the fire on the timeline.

Regarding the cause of the fire or any ongoing investigations, an RCMP spokesperson mentioned in an email that the police currently have no details to share.
