Promise David has secured a move to the Premier League as Brighton & Hove Albion revealed the signing of the Canadian striker on a season-long loan deal from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. The agreement includes a potential permanent transfer for a rumored fee of $29.7 million US, contingent on meeting certain undisclosed conditions.
Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be playing in the Premier League starting from the upcoming season, setting a new transfer record for the Belgian club. The 25-year-old forward arrives at Brighton following a successful stint at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 appearances and contributed to the team’s first league championship in 90 years in 2025. David extended his contract with Union through June 2029 last year.
Having represented Canada at the recent World Cup, David scored a goal while recovering from a hip injury and has four goals in 14 matches for the Canadian national team. Born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David initially played for Nigeria’s under-23 squad before switching allegiance to Canada in 2025 with FIFA’s approval following discussions with Canada coach Jesse Marsch.
Brighton marks the latest destination in David’s diverse career, having previously plied his trade in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before moving to Belgium in July 2024. Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed enthusiasm about David’s signing, praising his goal-scoring abilities, physical attributes, and international experience, believing he will be a valuable asset for the team in the upcoming season as he enters his peak playing years.
