Adriana Paredes, a resident of Coteau-du-Lac in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region, returned home after her work shift on Saturday night to find her car’s rear window shattered, seemingly by a BB gun. Initially shocked and questioning why it happened to her, she later felt relief knowing it wasn’t a personal attack but part of a larger spree.
Over the weekend, the Sûreté du Québec received over 60 reports of vandalism involving BB guns in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region, affecting multiple communities including Rigaud, Saint-Lazare, Coteau-du-Lac, Les Cèdres, Saint-Zotique et Les Coteaux, and Saint-Polycarpe. According to SQ spokesperson Louis-Philippe Ruel, the incidents involved individuals shooting at cars and residences from a moving vehicle.
Simon Labelle, a resident of Les Cèdres, discovered his car’s rear windows shattered early Sunday morning, suspecting the involvement of teens. He observed similar damage on several other vehicles in his neighborhood, expressing disappointment over the unexpected expenses and disruptions caused by the vandalism.
The acts of vandalism have resulted in significant damage to vehicles and windows, leading to potentially costly repairs for affected families, as per provincial police. An investigation is ongoing, with authorities seeking any leads that may assist in identifying the perpetrators, including gathering information from the victims and examining security camera footage.
Adriana Paredes, who found a BB gun pellet in her vehicle and faced a $200 repair cost despite having insurance, emphasized the financial strain and inconvenience caused by the incident, especially as she recently returned from maternity leave. She highlighted the impact on her community and emphasized the importance of accountability in addressing such incidents.
