A senior citizen, aged 65, is being charged with attempted murder by the RCMP for allegedly trying to smother an elderly man in his 80s with a pillow at a residence in Prince County. Responding to a disturbance report at approximately 3:20 a.m. on Thursday, Prince District RCMP officers arrived at the scene.
According to Cpl. Gavin Moore, an RCMP media relations officer, a third person within the residence heard the commotion and intervened, preventing further harm. This intervention likely saved the life of the octogenarian. Fortunately, the victim did not sustain any severe injuries, although the vulnerable nature of the individual made the nighttime attack extremely perilous.
Following the incident, the suspect was apprehended without resistance. Police confirmed that there was a prior acquaintance between the accused and the victim. The 65-year-old suspect was detained after an initial court appearance at Summerside Provincial Court on Thursday and was brought before the court again on Friday to face the attempted murder charge.
The ongoing investigation is being supported by the RCMP Major Crime Unit and the Forensic Identification Section to gather further evidence and insights into the case.
