The national inflation rate increased to 3.1 percent in September, as reported by Statistics Canada on Monday. This rise in the annualized inflation figure for September was driven by higher gasoline prices last month. Although food prices also went up, the increase was at a slower rate compared to September. Prior to the official release, a survey conducted by Bloomberg with 12 economists anticipated a 3.18 percent year-over-year rise in the consumer price index for September.
