Sir Mo Farah has made a permanent move with his family from the United Kingdom to Qatar, despite the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. The renowned athlete and his wife, Tania, along with their four children, including stepdaughter Rihanna, twin girls Aisha and Amani, and son Hussein, have resided in Doha since 2024. Recently, they have finalized the change in their residency status.
According to reports from The Sun, Farah updated his residency from the UK to Qatar for his company dealings. His company, with assets totaling £3.9 million, paid £375,000 in taxes and VAT in 2023. By relocating to Qatar, the four-time Olympic gold medalist will be exempt from taxes.
This transition comes amidst the backdrop of ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, particularly the tensions involving Israel, the United States, and Iran. Qatar has been impacted by the regional strife, with Iran targeting the country’s energy infrastructure using drones.
While over 100,000 Britons have returned to the UK due to the recent conflicts in the Middle East, Farah and his family have chosen to stay in Qatar. Despite owning a house in Weybridge, Surrey, they have opted to remain in Doha, where they feel safer. Farah expressed concern about the security situation in London and highlighted the desire for his children to grow up away from the public scrutiny associated with his celebrity status.
In a previous interview with The National, Farah explained that the move to Qatar was motivated by his family’s positive experiences in the country during the 2022 World Cup. He emphasized the importance of spending quality time with his family after years of being away due to his athletic career. Farah stated that supporting his children’s happiness and aspirations is now his priority, enjoying the simpler and more family-oriented lifestyle in Qatar.
