Members of the Alberta Medical Association have approved a proposed three-year master pay agreement with the provincial government. The association and government have indicated their intention to disclose the specifics of the deal upon finalization.
Dr. Heidi Fell, the president of the association, communicated to members that 76% of the 22% of eligible voters favored the agreement in a letter. She noted that the outcome was not the initial sought-after agreement but was reached after mediation in what she described as a challenging negotiation environment.
Despite not meeting their original expectations, Fell highlighted that the agreement offers a three-year structure, stability, and significant benefits for doctors. Hospitals Minister Adriana LaGrange praised the deal for providing fair and competitive compensation to physicians while ensuring the sustainability of the healthcare system.
