A man found collapsed on the streets of Amsterdam three years ago has sparked a transatlantic investigation to determine if he could be a long-missing Canadian. Referred to as “Lucky,” the man suffered from aphasia, a language disorder, believed to be caused by a stroke or brain hemorrhage.
Despite efforts by Amsterdam police, Lucky had no identification or passport and operated largely under various aliases, leaving little official or digital trace. The investigation, now handled by a cold case unit, was revitalized by a video appeal that garnered numerous tips, some of which suggest a possible connection to Canada.
The striking resemblance between Lucky and John Russell Kenny, a Vancouver resident missing for over 30 years, has caught the attention of authorities. Kenny, who would now be 67 years old, faced mental health challenges and led a transient lifestyle before disappearing in 1993. Clues linking the two men, such as shared nicknames and language patterns, have fueled speculation.
Vancouver police are actively cooperating with Dutch and Interpol officials to confirm Lucky’s identity as potentially John Russell Kenny. However, due to the nature of the case, a DNA test cannot be conducted without a family member’s involvement.
