Canada is one of four teams competing in Moncton for a chance to secure a spot in the men’s volleyball tournament at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Canada, ranked 13th globally, leads the pack, with Cuba following at 16th, Mexico at 23rd, and the Dominican Republic at 45th. In a recent regional championship in Moncton, Canada defeated Mexico and Cuba in straight sets before falling to the United States in the final. The U.S. did not advance to the Olympic qualifier as it already has an automatic spot as the host country. Canada, Cuba, and the U.S. have also secured spots in next year’s Men’s Volleyball World Cup.
In wheelchair basketball, the Canadian women’s team secured an 85-73 victory over the Netherlands in the semifinals of the world championship in Ottawa. Kady Dandeneau and Arinn Young led the team with impressive performances. Canada will face the United States in the gold-medal game, aiming for their first medal at the worlds since 2014.
In tennis, Canada is set to compete against France in a Davis Cup second-round qualifier in Quebec City. The spotlight is on Felix Auger-Aliassime, who will lead the Canadian team in the contest. Despite missing key players, including Denis Shapovalov and Gabriel Diallo, Canada looks to secure a spot in the Davis Cup Finals scheduled for late November in Italy.
