An RCMP officer stationed in northeastern British Columbia faces an assault with a weapon charge stemming from an incident while on duty in Fort Nelson First Nation in November 2025. Const. Maxim Pinke, part of the Northern Rockies RCMP detachment in Fort Nelson, is the accused.
The charge was formally laid on October 15 by the B.C. Prosecution Service, emphasizing that it was approved by an independent Crown Counsel. Pinke has been assigned to administrative duties by the B.C. RCMP, pending his first court appearance scheduled for October 26 in Fort Nelson.
Upon receiving reports of the on-duty incident, a Criminal Code investigation was promptly launched by an external RCMP unit, as confirmed by Staff Sgt. Kris Clark. Additionally, a Code of Conduct probe was initiated and is currently ongoing.
Although specific details of the alleged assault have not been disclosed, the case is now under court jurisdiction, leading the prosecution service to refrain from sharing further information. Nevertheless, a spokesperson verified that the North District RCMP conducted the investigation of the incident.
In cases involving police officers causing death or severe injuries, the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. typically steps in. However, incidents resulting in injuries below the “serious harm threshold” are handled by different law enforcement agencies, according to the prosecution service.
Pinke’s duty status will continue to undergo regular evaluation and monitoring, stated Clark.
