The Canadian women’s hockey team is set to face off against the United States on October 28 in Windsor, Ontario, in a warm-up match before the 2026 world championship, as announced by Hockey Canada on Tuesday. Additionally, plans for a second exhibition game in the United States are in the works and will be disclosed soon.
The upcoming women’s world hockey championships are scheduled to take place from November 6 to 16 in Herning and Esbjerg, Denmark. Following their defeat to the United States in the gold-medal match at the Milan Cortina Olympics in February, Canada will kick off their tournament on November 6 against Sweden. The Canadian team will also compete against Japan, Denmark, and Finland during the initial pool matches.
This championship will mark Danièle Sauvageau’s first involvement as the new general manager of the national team, taking over from Gina Kingsbury. Notably, there has been no replacement appointed yet for Troy Ryan, the former head coach who held the position for six years.
Unfortunately, Canada’s captain Marie-Philip Poulin is expected to miss the tournament due to a recent surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in her right knee that took place in July.
