Quebec’s independent police oversight body is currently investigating a fatal incident that unfolded during a police pursuit involving three different law enforcement agencies in the vicinity of Lévis overnight. The situation arose following reports of a collision and gunfire on the Pierre-Laporte Bridge in Quebec City, prompting authorities to respond to the scene at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday.
The Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) disclosed that a collision resulted in one individual sustaining severe injuries and a suspect absconding in a stolen vehicle. The suspect’s vehicle collided head-on with another southbound vehicle on the bridge, leading to gunfire that injured an individual with two bullets.
Subsequently, provincial police initiated a pursuit shortly before 1:30 a.m., resulting in the interception of the stolen vehicle at Lallemand Road and Guillaume-Couture Boulevard in Lévis, as confirmed by local police. Law enforcement officers from the Sûreté du Québec, Quebec City police, and Lévis police coordinated efforts to encircle the vehicle.
Upon closer examination, members of a provincial police tactical unit discovered the individual inside the vehicle unconscious, with their demise pronounced at the scene. The BEI has reported that the gunshot victim is currently in stable condition.
The investigative body has allocated seven investigators to delve into the circumstances surrounding the incident, with support from Montreal police. In parallel, Montreal police are conducting a separate inquiry into the events preceding the police engagement.
