A woman, Kimberlee Singler, suspected of killing her two young children amid a custody battle with her ex-husband, has been extradited from the UK to the United States. Singler, 37, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder following the tragic deaths of her nine-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son in Colorado Springs. Her 11-year-old daughter survived the incident with injuries.
Singler was apprehended in London on December 30, 2023, after her daughter revealed to investigators that Singler claimed ‘God made her do it.’ She was then extradited back to the US on December 23. Initially, Singler had minor knife wounds and alleged that a man who entered the apartment was responsible for the tragedy. However, the surviving daughter initially supported Singler’s account but later changed her statement, leading to Singler being pursued by the police.
Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez described Singler’s alleged actions as unthinkable and acknowledged the profound impact on the community. Singler is set to remain in custody until a preliminary hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for a trial, according to District Attorney Michael Allen. The surviving child, now 13, is expected to play a crucial role as a witness in the legal proceedings.
Singler faces charges of attempted murder, child abuse, and assault, in addition to the murder charges. The bodies of the children were discovered by authorities in December 2013 with no footprints in the snow leading to the supposed entry point Singler mentioned. Singler’s claims about her ex-husband’s intentions were dismissed by the court, as GPS data placed him far from the scene at the time of the incident.
Prior to the tragic event, a judge had instructed Singler to comply with a custody order allowing the father to have the children for the holidays. However, Singler failed to follow the directive, leading to the court-ordered hearing where she cited an attack on her and her children as the reason for her non-compliance.
Singler’s defense attorney in London argued against her extradition, citing concerns over the potential life sentence without parole in Colorado. Despite her legal battles, Singler was unsuccessful in challenging the extradition orders, and she now faces a legal battle in the United States for the tragic events that unfolded in Colorado Springs.
