Pittsburgh Penguins’ player Ben Kindel was hospitalized in Salt Lake City for a medical emergency that occurred during the team’s return flight from a four-game trip. The 19-year-old Kindel, hailing from Coquitlam, B.C., experienced an unspecified medical issue shortly after the team’s departure from Salt Lake City airport on Tuesday. The flight was rerouted back to the airport, where Kindel received immediate medical attention from the team’s medical personnel before being transported to the University of Utah hospital via ambulance. The Penguins confirmed that Kindel was conscious, alert, and in stable condition. Kindel, who was drafted 11th overall in the 2025 draft and is currently in his second season with the Penguins, has contributed two goals and two assists in nine games. His most recent game saw him play for 18 minutes and 53 seconds in a 5-4 defeat against Utah on Monday night.
