Ahead of the upcoming municipal election day in St. Catharines, residents have the opportunity to vote in advance on two remaining occasions. As of Wednesday, 4,490 voters have already participated in advance polling, and City Clerk Kristen Sullivan expects this number to surpass the 2022 early voting count of 5,401.
The upcoming advance voting opportunities are as follows:
– Thursday, Oct. 22: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the St. Catharines Public Library’s Merritt Branch at the Pen Centre, 221 Glendale Ave.
– Saturday, Oct. 24: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Grantham Optimist Club, 188 Linwell Rd.
To use an accessible ballot-marking device, voters must visit an advance poll as these devices are exclusively available at those locations. Additionally, the city recently introduced “drive-up voting” on Oct. 18 at Market Square, which has been positively received by residents for providing a convenient voting option from their vehicles.
On the election day, Monday, Oct. 26, polling stations will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Residents can select from three polling locations within their ward, details of which can be found on the city’s official website. Voters are required to bring identification displaying their name and an eligible address when casting their ballots.
In the 2022 municipal election, St. Catharines saw a voter turnout of approximately 26%, based on data from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.
