Survivors of a harrowing plane emergency landing in Prince George, B.C., where one person lost their life and several others sustained injuries, are recounting their experiences. Jaime Pawliuk, who was on his way to work, described the moment he saw the plane approaching rapidly towards him, causing significant damage to his vehicle. Despite the ordeal, Pawliuk managed to escape with minor injuries. The incident involved a Beech King Air 200 aircraft making an emergency landing on Foothills Boulevard, disrupting the traffic flow in the area.
Following the accident, Pawliuk and other witnesses had to abandon their vehicles at the scene as authorities conducted investigations. The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) took charge of the inquiry and confirmed that the plane had taken off from Sturdee Airstrip with eight individuals onboard, including crew members and passengers. The aircraft was en route to Prince George International Airport but encountered engine troubles, leading to the emergency landing on the busy road.
The TSB disclosed that the plane collided with four vehicles during the landing, resulting in one fatality. While the passengers on board the plane were unharmed, the occupants of the vehicles involved in the collision sustained injuries. The TSB is currently scrutinizing the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the plane’s maintenance and operational aspects.
Former TSB investigator Bill Yearwood highlighted the challenging decisions pilots face during emergencies, emphasizing the critical nature of quick decision-making in such situations. Despite the road reopening and the removal of the plane from the scene, the community is still grappling with the aftermath of the crash, seeking answers and support to cope with the traumatic event.
