Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been activated from the seven-day injured list and is set to play on Saturday against the New York Yankees. Guerrero sustained an injury during a game against the Yankees last week when he collided with George Lombard Jr., a rookie shortstop from New York, in a peculiar play at third base during the sixth inning.
The collision occurred as Guerrero slid at third base and was struck in the head by Lombard’s knee and thigh, causing his helmet to come off. Despite the incident, Guerrero managed to score the tying run before leaving the game. After passing his final concussion tests, Guerrero rejoined the team on Friday and participated in batting practice following a successful minor league rehabilitation game for single-A Dunedin, where he hit a double.
Following a 3-1 loss to the Yankees in the series opener on Friday, Guerrero was placed second in the batting lineup for Saturday’s game. In a corresponding roster move, the Blue Jays sent infielder/outfielder Davis Schneider to triple-A Buffalo.
Guerrero, who holds a batting average of .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs, was hitting .310 in his last seven games prior to the collision.
