American softball athlete Cam Schiller has been handed a three-year suspension for using a steroid, as announced by the International Testing Agency on Wednesday. The ITA revealed that Schiller tested positive for doping while representing the United States at the 2025 Men’s Softball World Cup, leading to the revocation of his bronze medal from the competition as part of his penalty.
Schiller’s ban duration was shortened from four years to three after he accepted the consequences without contesting the doping violation, the agency confirmed. Beginning his sports career with the Texas Rangers in 2012, Schiller later transitioned to softball after playing in the minor leagues for the Spokane Indians.
According to the ITA, Schiller was found to have norandrosterone in his system, a byproduct of the anabolic steroid nandrolone, during the previous year’s World Cup held in Canada. Despite his impressive performance with a batting average of .450 and earning a spot on the all-world team, Schiller’s achievements were overshadowed by the doping controversy. Moreover, he had also contributed to the U.S. team’s bronze medal win at the 2022 Men’s Softball World Cup in New Zealand.
