The Town of Wolfville in Nova Scotia is collaborating with L’Arche Homefires to revamp its official stationery. Mayor Jodi MacKay shared that town council members were inspired by the artwork exhibited at L’Arche’s annual show last year, which supports individuals with intellectual disabilities. Impressed by the talent on display, MacKay proposed commissioning artwork to create unique cards capturing the essence of Wolfville. The paintings, now displayed at the town hall, have also been reproduced on greeting cards for the council and staff.
These exclusive cards will be available for purchase at the store within L’Arche Homefires. Councilor Jennifer Ingham expressed great satisfaction with the project, praising the creativity and success of Mayor MacKay’s initiative.
Under the theme, ‘I like that anybody can see my painting,’ members of L’Arche and staff collaborated on the artistic pieces. One artist, Stephen Parkin, who recently took up painting, partnered with staff member Gaga Ou Yang to create a painting of the gazebo at Wolfville Waterfront Park. Parkin expressed his delight in sharing his art with others. Ou Yang acknowledged the privilege of having the artists’ work showcased by the town, emphasizing the enriching experience.
Sharon Lloyd, another artist supported by L’Arche, cherished the camaraderie during the art project with staff, especially enjoying painting nature alongside her friend Cameron Ross. The project was a fulfilling journey for Ou Yang, who found joy in showcasing the remarkable talents of individuals at L’Arche.
Overall, the collaboration between L’Arche Homefires and the Town of Wolfville has not only brought creativity to the town’s stationery but has also fostered a sense of community and appreciation for art.
