Dan Regan believes that engaging in puzzles can provide a brief escape from daily challenges and bring a moment of lightness. This idea struck him during a recent visit to the Unity Health Centre in St. John’s. After getting blood work done, he relaxed at the Jumping Bean coffee shop within the same building.
The health center not only houses an urgent care clinic and ambulatory health hub but also serves as a space where individuals receive difficult news. Wanting to bring smiles to people’s faces, Regan decided to introduce jigsaw puzzles to the lobby area.
With the support of the café staff, Regan started setting up communal puzzles for anyone passing by to join in. Each participant who contributes a piece is encouraged to sign their name or initials inside the puzzle box lid. The initiative has garnered positive responses, with around 22 people participating in the first puzzle.
Regan, who enjoys puzzles himself, emphasizes that anyone can engage in this activity regardless of artistic abilities. He views it as a way for people to find enjoyment and relaxation in moments of pause. His efforts have gained attention online, showcasing the impact of his simple yet meaningful gesture.
Encouraging others to embrace these moments of joy, Regan continues to offer shared puzzles at the health center. His initiative serves as a reminder of the importance of finding solace and connection in simple activities like putting together a puzzle.
