“Canada Cruises to NORCECA Finals with Cuba Victory”

Canada secured a spot in the final of the NORCECA men’s continental volleyball championship after defeating Cuba 3-0 on Tuesday. Sharone Vernon-Evans and Eric Loeppky led the Canadian team with 14 points each, while Stephen Maar contributed 13 points. The set scores were 26-24, 25-22, and 22-17.

Canada outscored Cuba in attack points (39-31), blocks (8-6), and serves (9-3). Alejandro Gonzalez was the top scorer for Cuba with 12 points. The victory guarantees Canada a place in the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup in Poland.

Head coach Dan Lewis expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, emphasizing the quality of the win against a formidable opponent like Cuba. He highlighted the importance of securing a berth in the World Cup and the upcoming focus on the final NORCECA qualification stage for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The team’s success opens up opportunities for more athletes to compete, with a quick turnaround to concentrate on Olympic qualification. The Canadians will face either the United States or the Dominican Republic in the championship match.
