Daiki Hashimoto of Japan clinched the gold medal in the men’s all-around final at the 54th artistic gymnastics world championships on Thursday, securing his fourth consecutive title with an outstanding performance on the high bar in the final rotation. The 25-year-old Hashimoto achieved a total score of 85.988, including a strong 14.766 on the high bar, despite having the option to choose a safer routine to guarantee his position atop the podium in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Hashimoto, the reigning 2020 Olympic all-around champion, displayed his unwavering commitment to excellence by overcoming a slow start on the floor exercise, which initially placed him in 10th position after the first rotation. This victory further solidifies his status as one of the premier male gymnasts in history. Hashimoto’s remarkable feat of securing four consecutive world all-around titles, commencing in 2021, is only surpassed by Japan’s legendary Kohei Uchimura, who captured six consecutive all-around gold medals between 2009 and 2015.
In the competition, Yang Haonan of China claimed the second spot with a score of 84.199, while Joe Fraser of Great Britain, who faced challenges during the team final leading to his team narrowly missing the medal stand, surged to third place with a score of 83.531. Samuel Zakutney of Saint John finished 19th out of 24 competitors with a score of 77.432.
Arsenii Dukhno of Russia, making his debut in the senior division at the world championships at the age of 18, was in close contention with Hashimoto until the final event. Unfortunately, Dukhno suffered a fall early in his routine and struggled with form, resulting in a score of 11.566 and a seventh-place finish.
