The groundbreaking moment has arrived at the new Fancsy Family Hospital in Windsor as the first batch of concrete has been officially poured. The recent milestone, known as the “first pour,” signifies the initiation of the structural pour for the entire project.
Construction progress is evident with the commencement of work on the tunnel that will link the educational and administrative center of the campus to the main building of Fancsy Family Hospital. This tunnel is crucial as it will provide a secure pathway for staff, equipment, and supplies to move between the buildings without traversing through patient, visitor, or outdoor spaces.
In the previous month, the hospital’s water main and storm sewer infrastructure were successfully installed by construction crews. The tunnel, along with the education and administration center, forms part of the initial phase of the project, which also involves the development of a 700-car parking garage and is anticipated to span three years.
The subsequent phase of the project will focus on constructing the diagnostic and treatment block. The hospital has closed the request for qualifications process for phase two, with plans to unveil it in the upcoming fall.
Looking ahead, a third phase will entail the construction of a tower equipped with inpatient rooms. The groundbreaking ceremony for the hospital took place in July, with notable figures such as Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, Windsor Regional Hospital CEO Kristin Kennedy, and members of the Fancsy family in attendance.
Despite the progress, Kennedy foresees that the hospital’s completion may not be realized until 2033.
