Londoners traveling along a section of Wellington Road will encounter a new path beginning next week. The City of London announced the opening of a temporary diversion between Wellington Crescent and Thomas Janes Drive, slated to be operational until 2027.
This diversion is part of the Wellington Gateway rapid transit project, allowing construction teams to replace underground infrastructure. The overall project is set to continue until 2029, with final restoration work expected to conclude in 2030.
Additionally, pedestrians and cyclists will benefit from a new multi-use path on the west side of the temporary road. Temporary bus stops for northbound and southbound traffic near Emery Street will be installed to maintain transit services.
While construction progresses, traffic and sidewalk limitations will persist on Wellington Road and select side streets. The City advises residents to adhere to posted signage and allocate extra travel time when passing through the affected area.
